Athena Joins United Nations Global Compact to Close the Gender Gap in STEM Workforce

Athena is proud to announce it’s a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 17 SDGs are a universal call to action to close the gender gap and other widespread inequities.  Athena’s partnership with the UN is focused on SDG number 5, Gender Equality. Gender equality is a fundamental human right that is integral to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Yet despite progress, women and girls around the world do not fully experience equal rights and their potential as economic, social and sustainable development change-agents remains untapped. Corporate leadership on gender equality is needed.

With the UNGC commitment, Athena is advancing this worldwide, principle-based framework within the STEM business community and invites companies to join us today. Athena will convene our corporate and community partners to explore the many ways in which business can act on SDG 5 to promote gender equality in the workplace, marketplace, and community.

“Gender Equality is more than a goal in itself. It is a precondition for meeting the challenge of reducing poverty, promoting sustainable development, and building good governance.” – Kofi Annan
