Athena's Life Sciences Special Interest Group (LSIG) Committee Presents | Living Heart Healthy & Stress-Free

Work/life balance - what does that mean to you? Some may argue that it doesn’t exist, while others continue to carve their own definition. Regardless of how you strive for this, we don’t ever talk about how the stress in achieving that balance affects our overall health. It’s been well established that gender differences in disease exist. For example, women who experience heart attacks receive less guideline-based diagnosis and less-invasive treatment than men. How do social norms and expectations affect our health and professional growth?
This program will feature a diverse panel, providing perspectives from successful physicians and professionals on the science of heart health in achieving work/life balance. We will discuss provocative topics such as the biological implications of stress in leadership positions, the challenge in creating work/life balance in a male-dominated industry, and methods to create a model for other women to achieve success. This panel will also feature a very brief, guided introduction to meditation, designed to help attendees tackle stress.
